A Win for God
Quiet Godly leadership gently nudging hearts and souls towards the Cross—that’s Intentional Faith Executive Director Terry Roberts’ tactic for success in progressing God’s plan for His kingdom.
An unlikely composite of a linear thinker with a lateral bent, Roberts is laser-focused on identifying individuals in need of direction and purpose. He is uniquely gifted at drawing out their talents and connecting them with resources to develop their potential, all the while coaching them steadily toward their goals.
Roberts is a consummate family man. He and his wife, Tonya, have 4 children. With seven grandchildren (the oldest being only seven) with whom he spends much of his free time, his life is utterly immersed in coaching souls towards the Cross.
With a B.S in mechanical engineering from University of Alabama, Roberts held engineering design and management positions in NASA'S Marshall Space Flight Center Engineering Directorate, completing 36 years there before retiring in 2017. Since a very early age, he has also been involved in multiple ministries with his church and community, especially praise and worship programs. A gifted singer, Roberts was even offered a college music scholarship right out of high school but turned it down to pursue the engineering degree at University of Alabama.
One of those doors was Intentional Faith. Since retirement, Roberts has been directing the IF team in cheering on under-resourced members of the community as they discover their purpose through personal, professional and spiritual development programs. The focus, Roberts says, is always on God.
“Sharing the love of Jesus is the bottom line. By walking with individuals and pointing them to the Cross, by helping them define their needs and strengths, Intentional Faith seeks to help people grow into that person God has called them to be—ultimately advancing God’s kingdom.” Roberts said.
He continued, “Through Intentional Faith, God creates a win, win, win situation. Via our corporate partner, Intentional Faith assists individuals in developing job skills by matching them with our partnering organizations. This helps those organizations meet their missions, and communities, as a whole, are strengthened and improved. An individual’s service to the community helps them develop in their walk with God and they begin to see their purpose in His plan.”
Roberts stops just short of professing a vision for the three-year-old Huntsville nonprofit.
“God’s plan will be progressed in His way and His timing. I would never want to conceive of limiting God and His power. We want to reach the people we are supposed to reach for Jesus.,” he said.
“In recent years, we have seen an obvious void in people’s understanding of their identity in Christ. So many people continue to be constrained by what the world tells them and how they view themselves. IF’s hope is that we can help people understand who they are in Jesus Christ and live in that truth. This understanding by members of our community could have immeasurable impact both on this world and on God’s kingdom.”
